Winona, mother of seven children, graduated Manhattanville College and earned a master’s degree from New York University. She was a model in New York and later a school teacher of English, Social Studies, and Russian Language. She studied Russian at the University of Leningrad before joining CIA as an Intelligence Analyst and Writer. She wrote mystery stories and won the national award from the Private Eye Writers of America for the “Best First Private Eye Novel of 1991” for “Sudden Death at the Norfolk Cafe” which was published by Saint Martin’s Press and Macmillan London Ltd. along with the series of novels that followed. She was a professor of Creative Writing at the University of Miami and of English at Florida International University. She taught religious education as a volunteer for 40 years.
