DANCERS, Reverse Etching with Gouache

Dancers, Reverse Etching, with pencil and gouache on Rives Tan paper, 22×30″.

Ink was rolled on the surface of the etching plate rather than the traditional method of forcing ink into the etched lines and wiping the plate surface clean. The result was very fine white lines on the black ground. Another example of deconstructing medium, not with a nihilistic intent, but to make the medium reveal itself and be even more expressive.
